What you need to know for Epic Go Live October 24

CPOE is the standard

You enter your own orders. Verbal orders are for emergent situations only.

Epic has no transcription. Dictate with Dragon or Abridge, and start now so go-live is not your first day.

Mobile Heartbeat ends October 24

Secure Chat replaces it in Hyperspace, Haiku, and Canto. Enroll your device before go-live.

Paper consents are going away. Consent to treat, procedures, and ambient documentation are captured electronically.

Sign your legacy notes now

Only signed Meditech notes move into Epic. Unsigned notes do not convert. When a note was finalized decides when it shows up in Epic.

Held the same day as your training. Dedicated time with Epic support staff to make the system yours before go-live.

One on one help with anything from class

Plan on 90 minutes up to the full time slot, depending on how much you personalize. Epic tracks your progress as Essential and Advanced achievement levels; aim for both before October 24.

1. Super Users

Trained Freeman staff in black Super User vests on every unit and clinic. Your first stop for at-the-elbow help.

2. Badge buddies

Staff wearing an An Epic Adventure badge buddy (Physician Champion, Super User, Nurse Champion, Change Advocate) have extra Epic training. Ask them.

For anything a Super User cannot fix on the spot: access, hardware, build issues. Tickets are tracked; hallway conversations are not.

Exemplars: physicians who have lived through Epic

Experienced Epic clinicians from other health systems are on site to coach providers in their specialty. They arrive October 26, the first clinic day, unless noted. To reach one, ask your service line director or department lead; they hold the exemplars' cell numbers.
