Three things about Epic that catch providers off guard. Know them now, not at go-live.

Your patient may see their results before you do

Once results and notes are final, they go straight to the patient through MyFreemanHealth (MyChart). There is no delay for provider review.

  • Expect calls and messages about results you have not seen yet.
  • Set expectations during the visit: tell patients results release automatically and when you will follow up.
  • Sensitive results release too. Plan how you will communicate before ordering.
Surprise no. 2

Not all notes, labs, orders, and images will be in Epic

Generally, about 3 years of recent clinical data converts from legacy systems. What converts:

PATHOLOGY

Need older records? Legacy systems stay view-only until archived.
